Malaga airport has three terminals for passengers and a cargo terminal.
The architect Bruce S. Fairbanks designed the new Terminal T3 at Malaga airport, where he achieved great functionality by converting all terminals into one single terminal enabling users to transit the airport avoiding having to leave the building.
The new terminal has approximately 250.000 m2 and a boarding dock of 240 meters long, parallel to the aircraft platform. In the arrivals area we can find the atrium, where all the ways of transport that arrive at the airport, converge.
The main floors of the building, with a 225 meters long facade, are used as the check-in lobby of about 20.000 square meters on the first floor and the baggage claim hall on the ground floor.
At departures, there are 86 new counters (2 for special luggage) allocated in two areas and 15 self-check-in machines. A security zone with 9 central security filters gives way to a shopping area which leads to the shipping dock.
At the arrivals level there are 11 points for luggage claim. 9 for the European Union and 2 for non-EU members...and 1 conveyor belt for special baggage.
On the remaining floors of the new terminal building are the offices and the new automated baggage handling (SATE) with a processing capacity of 7500 pieces of luggage per hour and a processing time of about 3 minutes.
