American architect, Bruce S. Fairbanks, designed the newest terminal at the airport ‘Terminal 3’ which was officially opened in March 2010 by the King and Queen of Spain.

All of the terminals are located in the same complex which means passengers can travel between terminals without leaving the building.
The terminal is approximately 250.000m2 in size and there is a 240 metre long boarding area which is situated next to the aircraft platform.

The main floor space of the ‘new’ terminal is used as the check-in lobby, this is about 20.000 metres in size and the area for picking up your luggage has been placed on the ground floor.

In the departures area, there are 86 counters which are allocated in two areas and 15 self-check-in machines.
A security zone with 9 X ray machines gives way to a shopping area which leads to the shipping dock.
In the arrivals hall there is a total of 11 converor belts for luggage claim.

The other floors of Terminal 3 are offices for the airlines which operate from the airport and this is also where the automated baggage handling (SATE) is located.
